Transnational Intellectual Property Seminar
Viva Italia! In the spirit of comparative law education and exchanges, CASRIP hosted a week-long series of intellectual property lectures and interactive exercises for approximately 50 domestic and international law students at Roma Tre University in Rome, Italy, this past February.
The focus of the seminar was the LG Electronics v. Bizcom Electronics case, specifically patent exhaustion and field of use restrictions. The students conducted heated license negotiations during the week. At the end of the week, student groups presented their respective cases in a series of three mock trials before Judge Randall Rader of the Federal Circuit, Dr. Klaus Grabinski from Germany, and Judge Gabriella Muscolo from Italy.
The Transnational IP Seminar is a week of lectures and interactive exercises on intellectual property topics, bringing together students and faculty from the University of Washington with our partner schools around the globe. In 2007 the Transnational IP Seminar was held at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. In 2009 the Seminar will be at CEIPI in Strasbourg, France.
